Background of the Study
Religious organizations have long been integral to the political socialization of individuals, particularly in multi-ethnic and multi-religious societies like Nigeria (Ali & Yusufu, 2023). In Shendam LGA, Plateau State, religious institutions play a significant role in shaping the political attitudes and behaviors of their followers through sermons, communal activities, and interfaith dialogues. These religious organizations, representing both Christian and Muslim communities, provide a platform for the dissemination of political ideas, the discussion of governance issues, and the promotion of civic values (Sani & Adebayo, 2024). One of the unique features in Shendam is the emphasis on interfaith dialogue, which fosters mutual understanding and political cooperation across religious divides. This study investigates the role of religious organizations in political socialization in Shendam, focusing on how interfaith dialogue impacts political engagement, tolerance, and political behavior among community members (Bala & Jibril, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While religious organizations are recognized as agents of socialization, their specific role in political socialization, particularly in the context of interfaith dialogue, has not been adequately explored in Shendam LGA. Although religious bodies in the region have been instrumental in promoting peace and understanding between diverse religious groups, their influence on political behaviors, such as voting patterns, political participation, and advocacy, is yet to be fully examined (Yakubu & Mohammed, 2023). This study aims to explore how interfaith dialogue within religious organizations in Shendam LGA contributes to shaping political attitudes, enhancing political participation, and promoting peaceful coexistence among members of different faiths.

To assess the role of religious organizations in political socialization in Shendam LGA.
To examine the impact of interfaith dialogue on political attitudes and behaviors among religious groups in Shendam LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study offers insights into the ways religious organizations influence political socialization, particularly through interfaith dialogue. It contributes to the broader discourse on the intersection of religion and politics in Nigeria and highlights the potential of religious institutions in fostering democratic participation and peaceful political engagement. The findings will be valuable for policymakers, religious leaders, and community organizers in promoting inclusive and participatory governance.
